A New Year, new opportunities for great photography. The club started on the 3rd with a field trip to the campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University! WOW. What a treat. We were allowed inside the Mori Hosseini Student Union Building, finished at the end of last year and designed by the Ikon.5 architectural firm. Look for images on our events page.

Then the Orlando Camera Club invited members of our club to a presentation of Olympus Visionary Peter Baumgarten (http://www.creativeislandphoto.com) on Monday evening, January 14. Well worth the drive to busy Orlando. Very inspiring and an eye opener for people who don’t know the mirrorless cameras of Olympus.

On January 20 we have the Super Wolf Blood Moon (which is just a total lunar eclipse, which lasts 1 hour and 3 min. and starts at 10.35pm EST) and if you are able there are some great images to be had with this opportunity. Two web sites 1. http://in-the-sky.org and 2. http://skyandtelescope.com will tell you where and when you can see this lunar eclipse. Some pointers: for a wide angle shot make multiple exposures of 1/90 sec with f/11 and a 90mm lens (24-105@82mm was used in the example I saw). With a telephoto lens use anything 300mm and over ISO 100 or 200, f/5.6 and 1/125 sec. While some other photographer said use Aperture Priority at f/11. Play with these settings because everyone’s camera is different and of course use a tripod! (Make sure your Image Stabilization button is off.) If you have Live View use that to focus and use a remote release to prevent camera shake.

After my travels I had the blahs and certainly didn’t have the inspiration for our black & white challenge. But of course I feel compelled to do ALL challenges and so I try to come up with an image every day. That is good – it’ll come and we do this black & white challenge as rehearsal for our Ebony & Ivory Show. The registration date for that Show is Monday, February 25 – it is coming up fast! No idea either what to put in the show… but that idea will come as well some day!

Till next time!
