November 6, 2022

We’re heading with lighting speed in the direction of Christmas and the end of the year… What a year it has been; lots of ups, but also some downs. We had to cancel the meeting in September due to Hurricane Ian, but the October meeting was a lot of fun. I was standing in the Gallery and looked at the Atrium to see a scaled-down Black Friday happening without money changing hands! The Great Photography Give-Away was a success, and the club got some donations. We appreciate that!

Of course, November is the month of elections and that is the case for the club as well. In the November 17 meeting the board is elected. This year we say goodbye to Paul Johnson and thank him for all he has done for the club. Will Abair is up for election together with Sylvia Rohmer, Donna Armstrong, Richard Rosenthal and myself. Jeanne Figurelli as Hospitality Chair and Michele Oliver as Publicity Chair have agreed to stay on for another year. In today’s newsletter you’ll read that Stan has decided to go a different direction and he will end his reign as Newsletter Editor. Luckily Neala McCarten has agreed to take over with Peggy Goldtrap on the reserve bench… They will try their hand in December with a short newsletter.

And then the future of the club…

I said in a meeting that I thought the club was a deflated balloon and I didn’t know if I was the one to blow it up. Dark days – dark thoughts… In the meeting I already had nice comments and later via email some members send me a lot of encouragement. So, this is me with my bicycle pump trying to get some air in the balloon!

The Southeast Museum of Photography has asked us back for an exhibit in the Community Spotlight Gallery – a huge honor indeed. We are going urban this time and with the November challenge being Street Photography – it ties in nicely with this exhibit.

The calendar on this web site has all the pertinent dates, so fill in your calendars for next year and let’s make it a great one.

Happy Holidays everyone,

till next time,
