July 29, 2023

A milestone was reached in last Thursday’s meeting: we officially have 80 members!

Of course, we don’t accept new members, but the board decided, that because 5 members didn’t renew their membership, we could accept the members that were on the waiting list.

So, we have 80 members, but only 18 participated in our Assignment! We try our best to get the members shooting, and this was a little bit disappointing. However, we had a great meeting with some slide shows of field trips and the voting for the Assignment pictures. Voting was done anonymously, and we use the Borda Count method to count the votes. In the end Trish Hale ended up winning a free membership for 2024.

In the spirit of doing something different: 4 members went to Matanzas Inlet Park on Wednesday, July 19 at 2.45AM!!!! to shoot the Milky Way. I have never been so excited to come away with no pictures at all! It was a great experience and one that will certainly be repeated. Trying to do something out of the box and expanding your photographic horizons is very exhilarating. In spite of the bugs this was fun to do.

Now we are going to work on our 43rd Annual Show, that will be in the Casements Gallery from September 1 till September 28.

Another exciting thing is that we will have a show in the Southeast Museum of Photography again in 2024. We are so grateful to Christina Katsolis for this enormous honor!

And talking about exhibits: the field trip in August will be in the Southeast Museum of Photography to explore Andy Hollingworth’s exhibit “The Art of Stand-Up”; even though we don’t know a lot of British Stand-Up comics the quality of the portraiture is phenomenal, and we all can learn something here.

The board constantly tries to broaden the members’ horizon and we hope by doing challenges, putting on exciting field trips and having our bi-monthly Feedback Friday Zoom meeting we are doing just that.

Till next time,

Ans
