Still in the middle of the pandemic and still our Camera Club doesn’t meet in person, and will not for the rest of this year… Bummer…

So what to do? At the moment I am in the middle of the Photoshop Virtual Summit, hosted by Dave Cross. There were two options: free (!) and a VIP pass. It’s only day 2 and I have learned a lot!

Furthermore I made two important decisions: 1. I bought a new camera (my trusted Canon EOS 7D was from 2012 and made some serious strange noises, so I’ll keep that one as back-up) and 2. I got an Instagram account.

After very careful consideration I bought the Canon R6 with the kit lens: 24-105mm f/4. And I bought the RF 85mm macro. Am I happy? I am elated! This camera does everything I want and the AF system is amazing… Of course I’ve been watching a bunch of YouTube video’s before I decided on this camera and I am still learning. This is only a 20MB camera, but I don’t need to enlarge my images to have them on a billboard, so I really don’t need more MBs.

And I now have an Instagram account. I didn’t think I would like it, but I do love it. Not only for my own images, but to follow a lot of photographers I didn’t even know of. In this virtual world we do know a lot of photographers already, but to get their images handed to you on a silver platter is great! Great inspiration. That brings me to the fact that the board of the Casements Camera Club talked about getting an Instagram account; I was not satisfied with our Facebook account, because there are a lot of people on there, that are not members of our club! If we do it right an Instagram account could work better. We will start investigating in committee and let the members know what we decide. Instagram is a constant source of inspiration and I really think our members could benefit from this source of inspiration!

I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving,

till next time,

Ans
